Ufa arena is nothing like GM Place. It has stray dogs and the army.

So it's 3 a.m., I've found the only bar in town with Internet. They tried kicking me out twice but I've managed to talk, or I should say sign language my way into staying.
I'm up late tonight dealing with a major photo SNAFU and I'm thinking about how different seeing a hockey game is in Ufa compared to back home.
First, there are no scalpers sleazing all over every gate. No, here they are replaced by an army of police, security officers and military personnel. And oh boy, what an army they make up. The number of uniformed people at a game is overwhelming, complete with teams of bomb-sniffing dogs.

The organizers of 2010 should check out the security system here because these guys don't mess around. And they tell me they'll work cheap.
Second, there are no hot dogs. There are just a couple stands in the 8,500 seat arena that even sell food. It's all homemade baked goods, which are brought to the rink in big lasagna dishes.

The strangest difference has to be the bathrooms. There are no stalls. Now, I have to believe this is due to the fact that the arena won't finished for another month. But it sure makes taking a deuce an act for only the bravest among us.

Speaking of unfinished, the Ufa arena is going to be a great place to see a game, in about a month. Right now, it's a mess and a mess without air conditioning that meant the ice was melting all game and the fans and reporters were thick with sweat upstairs.

All around the arena there are pipes, wires, and fresh paint.
On the way through this unfinished corridor, one reporter even ran into a stray dog.

Now, that's something you don't see at GM Place.
